LinkedIn For Dummies and Business Professionals

Almost everyone who uses social media will have heard of LinkedIn, but how many are actually making good use of it?

If you are a business professional, you cannot afford to ignore this rapidly growing, publicly listed on the stock market, website.

At the time of writing LinkedIn has over 225 million users worldwide, of which 74 million are in the USA and 11 million in the UK.

60% of LinkedIn’s users are men and 40% women and 70% of them are aged between 24 and 54.

The average LinkedIn user spends 7.3 minutes per day on the service, compared to 30 minutes a day on Facebook. So you can see, this is a pretty sharp and fast moving crowd!

  • Reaches out to a wider targeted audience
  • Is a resource for you and your business – help/partners/collaborators/suppliers/research
  • SEO – Google LOVES LinkedIn!

For a quick summary of how to use LinkedIn,  watch the video I’ve prepared for you here..

Key Takeaway: In the video I explain HOW to use LinkedIn – BUT, above all things, keep it PROFESSIONAL! Don’t get yourself banned for being a spammer and/or sending out countless requests to join your ‘get rich quick’ scheme! It’s not clever, it doesn’t work and above all, it damages YOUR reputation AND your bank A/C.

Great information Robin. I always share my blog post on LinkedIn but there is much more to do there. As in Linked In there are more professional people who are looking for connections and new ideas.

      Hey Bruno!

That’s the point – the people in there are LOOKING to connect! They are business people – this is just what we need!

      Hey Janmarc,

That’s right – half the battle is won with these people – they are not locked into the ‘job’ mindset!

Robin you could have a killer review site!

“Talk about a clear, informative, action filled Linked IN tutorial”…

I can’t wait to jump in Linked IN…

    Yet here’s my question???

Would you say the prospects on Linked IN have a business background?

Which would make Linked IN a huge market if your in a opportunity that has a high entry point

      Hi Mason,

Thanks for the nice comments! The checks in the post! LOL

The folks on LinkedIn are all business related – it’s NOT a socialising site. However, there will be a great many in there who are just there to prospect and may not be as business savvy as you would hope? Fortunately, you can see who they are with a quick glance at their CV’s.

As to your question about ‘high entry point’ – well, perhaps you have a point… you could certainly reach people in there who MAY be able to afford a higher ticket price. However, I think you need to remember the basics. NO ONE will do business with you, whether your opportunity is 20 bucks or 20,000 bucks if they don’t KNOW, LIKE and TRUST you!

I’m approaching the people in LI in a very laid back, careful way. I’m not pushing links onto them up front – though plenty are trying that with me! Instead I’m just talking to them… finding out more about them conversationally. It’s a journey. No quick results. You have to build relationships with people – just like the REAL world – oh wait… it IS the real world! #gofigure!

I don’t use LinkedIn at present. It seems to be quite good.
Over time I will have a look at it in more detail.

Hey Lisa, it’s been awhile! Mostly due to techno problem on my site! However, if you are not yet involved in LinkedIn – I highly recommend you get involved ASAP! Remember unlike Facebook which is social, LinkedIn is for business! ~Robin~

LinkedIn is one of my favorite social networks, mainly because I am getting better results on my SMO on LinkedIn compared to Facebook and Twitter. This is a great video that uncover so many things.

LinkedIn paid subscription is too costly

    • Robin J Emdon

      Reply Reply June 7, 2017

That really depends on what and how you are using Linkedin. Personally, I have never found it necessary to subscribe to the premium service. I can do everything I want to on the free service.

    Hi Robin,

You are right about LinkedIn, this is probably the only social media network that actually means business, people who are there are not for any frivolous reason but serious work related connections. Moreover they have different categories like there is one for recruiters who can find best professionals for their requirements and then there is one for businesses seeking to generate leads.
