Is The Recession Your Biggest Challenge or The Greatest Opportunity of Your Life?

The potential for the current recession to turn into a global ‘depression’ that could last for years has by no means passed. On the contrary, many analysts far more ‘in the know’ than I are saying the danger has not yet passed. So, where does that leave you and me? How do we survive a deep recession? Well, whatever you currently do for a living, doesn’t it make sense to be involved in an industry that traditionally ‘booms’ during a recession as opposed to an industry that traditionally recedes? It’s perhaps easy to forget, since the last boom lasted for such a long time, just how business’s are dependent upon a growing economy and people having ‘spare’ cash to spend!

So what industries typically ‘thrive’ in a recession. Well, I can think of a couple; loan sharks and pawn brokers usually do ok (sadly!) and yes you’ve guessed it, network marketing (MLM) usually does incredibly well too.

Why? Well it’s not rocket science. When most industries across all product and service sectors tend to decline during a recession (by definition!), the number one casualty of that decline are jobs! And therefore yours and mine income! So, not surprisingly, people tend during a recession to look around for an alternative way of making a living.

Would you agree, that most people don’t really want a job, what they really want is income? These ‘legitimate’ MLM companies reward focused, hard work with often substantial incomes and certainly the kind of ‘security’ during a recession and beyond that most people didn’t know was possible!

Now there are other ways of working from home of course.  Some are totally centered in your home, maybe working on your PC writing or proof reading magazine articles. And others like MLM are a combination of PC centered work and attending trainings, showing other people the business and introducing them to your products.

The key question to ask yourself though when selecting your home-based business is, will this business grow or recede during a recession? And having answered that question to your own satisfaction, would you seriously choose a business that depends heavily on a growing economy or a business that does well when people are more open to the idea of working for themselves rather than the traditional ‘job’?

If you want an external viewpoint, I highly recommend any books by Robert Kiyosaki around his ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ (this links you to the one I recommend on Amazon) series.

Finally, please remember, DO your due diligence when selecting a reputable MLM company – if that’s the way you decide to go. Unfortunately there ARE scams out there and they too thrive during recessions. Two rules of thumb;

1)       if it sounds too good to be true, it is!!

2)      If the MLM company has been around for at least 10 yrs and makes it very clear you only make money if you work, (it’s illegal in the UK to make money out of signing you into the business and the MAXIMUM legal start cost is £200! (they should supply you with products worth at retail, well in excess of that investment ideally!) – so if they are complying with that, that’s a positive sign)

Remember, if you want change in your life….
